Input devices

Today’s consumer electronics, such as MP3 players, smartphones, and tablets, are becoming increasingly complex, with more features and functionalities offered in each new version. Yet at the same time, they are often smaller, thinner, and lighter than previous models.

The sensors they contain need to be thin and lightweight, but at the same time reliable, robust, and easy to integrate.

IEE’s switches, sliders and scrollers, and touchpads are an ideal choice for these high-demand devices.

Our input sensors have a thickness of less than 0.5mm and their shape can be adapted to suit any geometrical environment – making them ideal for a range of uses where space is limited and complex functionality is required. They are available in pressure- and capacitive-based variants, and different functions can be combined on the one device – providing a wider range of uses for the end-consumer. And because activation requires a certain pressure level, programs and devices cannot be unintentionally activated.

Incredibly versatile, touchpads can be based on force sensing resistor (FSR) or capacitive technology, depending on the required functionality.

Switches

Thin, durable and flexible, you can use our foil-based switches in automotive (instrument panel and steering wheel) and consumer devices that require an on/off signal.

The switch contact is closed when the force applied reaches a specified threshold, which can be adapted to meet application requirements. Depending on the type of contact material used, the switch can be nearly digital (low impedance) or force-dependant (where the contact resistance is a function of the force applied).

Switches can either be configured as single switches, or as switch arrays or matrices.

By combining the functionalities of IEE’s pressure sensor with capacitive switches in one sensor, you have smart input device that uses capacitive sensing for pre-selection and pressure activation for confirmation.

Sliders and scrollers

Thin, durable and flexible, our foil-based sliders and scrollers are ideal for automotive (instrument panel and steering wheel) and consumer devices requiring touch-sensitive and intuitive navigation. While, in principle, both sensors are based on the same technology, sliders allow movement along a straight line and scrollers detect movement along a circular path.

Consumer-Linpod

Sliders and scrollers can be activated using minimum force. While they deliver a voltage signal that is equivalent to the position on a path, they can also be configured as an array of switches by adapting the measurement algorithm.

Touchpads

When automotive and consumer devices need to recognize text, touchpads are the ideal solution.

Capable of detecting x and y co-ordinates on a plane of any shape, touchpads take the voltage generated at each co-ordinate and create user-drawn curves that can be used for drawing, writing or navigation.
